Tonight was Skylar's first night of practice with her swim team! She was so excited and kept asking every 5 minutes "is it time yet?" Practice time starts at 6:30pm which is kind of difficult since that's normally when I start getting them ready for bed. Thankfully we have friends that are joining us as well so it can serve as accountability to get there. I've never been to this place before and it's huuuuuge!
Kind of overwhelming at first, right? Maybe it's the right size for everyone else but for a mom just learning how to let go - this was a tough site. My girlfriend said it best when she said "I feel like Marlin on 'Finding Nemo'." Isn't it the truth?! "You can't ever let anything happen to him, cause then nothing would ever happen to him. Not much fun for little Harpo." Oh Dory, you're so wise. Once we got in, it's set up so that once the kids coach calls them - they all just disappear and parents are NOT allowed on deck. So here goes this flurry of kids, darting to the pool and my little girl is one of them. Without the ability to control it really I yelled out "she's only now just learning to swim. Please watch her!!" So glad Skylar is still young enough where that didn't even register because I'm sure if she were a bit older, I'd get a look that says - why are you always embarrassing me! After watching the door close behind her, I paid for her team suit and then scurried upstairs as fast as I could. This place is amazing and feels like the real-deal. Your areal view allows you to see all the different swim teams and coaches and right next to Skylar's team was the diving pool and WOW! That was cool. Of course I kept my eyes on her most of the time just certain she was going to fall in but she did so good! Naturally she made friends RIGHT away and at one point was even holding another little girls hand. When she wasn't holding hands, she was chatting with da boyz. Poor daddy.
She worked on breaststroke and backstroke and a little bit of floating. They let her go at one point and she was doing great until she got in her head. I could see it happening too..she looked every which way, trying to decide where she could grab on to and then she started wailing around so they assisted her again. I was nervous about what kind of impact that would have on her because she's so easily scared out of things, especially when it comes to the pool but she did okay. After her lessons were over I asked, "so did you like it?!" And she said "I did really like it but I was scared too, mama!" So I asked "you were scared? Do you want to come back again and swim or try something else?" She jumped up, dropped her towel and started running for the pool and said "I'll swim again!" I had to explain that I meant another day but I'm thinking she likes it!! So proud of this growing girl of mine!
