So last week I mentioned taking part in a 14 week challenge to clean out and reorganize your home which in turn, will hopefully make me a bit more sane. Maybe. I finished my garage project for the most part and just need to add an "emergency preparedness station" but that looks like a huge project and I have more pressing matters, like the kitchen. But in watching the news lately, maybe I should get to work on my emergency kit! There's now been a bombing in Boston and a plant explosion in West Texas that they're investigating to see if it was by mistake or foul play! Scary stuff! Maybe I will go get my shelving unit and just put together the essentials....adding to the list - check!
So today I decided to go back to "week 1" and start in the kitchen. I skipped this last week because the garage was really getting to me. This project is by far much harder then the garage project and I've come to discover two things. One, we have accumulated a lot of junk and two, we have accumulated a lot of non-matching junk. I feel like college kids with a variety of non-matching cups, plates, and bowls. I guess that's what happens when you live here for 6 years and things get broken so you go replace that one thing and add it to the "collection." I'm just going to say that we are very eccentric with our taste and that way people cant' judge, hopefully. I'm thinking I should have started this project on Tuesday because now that it's underway, I'll be finishing (or trying to finish) it with 3 kids tomorrow. Should be fun. Eva did not make it easy on me today either by wanting to be held and fed constantly! I'm thinking she really is ready for foods now but I keep dragging my feet on doing it.
Here's a couple before and after pics...there's still SO much to do and I could cry at the fact that I only organized THREE cabinets in 4 hours! Waaaah.
Cabinet 1:
Cabinet 2:
Cabinet 3 (before):
For sanity purposes, I took this the finished photo as if it were 2 separate cabinets when in actuality, our meds sit right next to our stemware. Sigh. Although I guess it "could" make sense on certain days. For example, you have a little too much fun with cabinet on the left, stop by cabinet on the right to get you ship-shape! ;)
Cabinet 3 (after):
Lack of options really...we are a family of 5 with very little cabinet space so you do what you can. It doesn't look like much but this project kicked my rear and its one of those projects that springs out a thousand other projects like organize the pantry, and fix the linen closet where all of the meds use to be piled up! I'm hoping and praying that tomorrow I can get it all finished because I do NOT wanna stare at the mess I've created all weekend. I'm shooting for Saturday to be completely done so wish me luck.
In kiddo news, we picked up our race bibs for our "Run for Hope" race on Saturday and Skylar is tickled!! This will be her very first race and I'm so proud of her...following in her mama's footsteps!
